You uploaded photos to your Google Business Profile, but the listing still shows an old photo, a blurry street-view frame, or a customer’s snapshot. The reason your Google Business Profile photos are not showing is almost always one of three things: they’re still pending review, they were rejected for a policy violation, or Google is choosing to display a different photo from another source. Here’s how to tell which one is happening to you — and the exact fix for each.
“Photos not showing” covers three different problems, and the fix depends on which one you have:
To check, open your profile in Google Search or in the dashboard and look at the photos section. Uploads visible in your dashboard but not on the public listing are likely pending or rejected. Photos sitting in the gallery but not shown as the cover photo are a display-order issue — normal, and fixable.
Every uploaded photo passes through automated — sometimes manual — review. Most clear within hours, but bulk uploads or busy periods can stretch review to several days. If you uploaded within the last 48 hours, the likeliest explanation is simply: wait.
However, if photos stay stuck for more than a week, the system likely flagged them for a closer look. Don’t re-upload repeatedly — each new upload can reset the queue and extend the wait.
This is the most common real cause — and the rules are stricter than most owners expect:
Google rarely tells you a photo was rejected — it just never appears. If week-old uploads are missing with no error message, assume rejection and re-upload a compliant version.
Technical issues are rarer but worth checking: use JPG or PNG, at least 720px on the shortest side (ideally 1080px+). Odd formats like WebP from some editors, corrupted uploads, or enormous files can silently fail.
Also use the right category for each upload: exterior, interior, team, product — plus food and menu for restaurants. Miscategorized photos won’t be rejected, but Google deprioritizes them in the display order.
This is the case that surprises most owners. Your photo is approved and live — it’s in the gallery — but the listing’s main photo is a customer-uploaded image, an old photo from a previous owner, or a Google street-view frame. That happens because Google doesn’t always show the owner’s photos first. It shows the photo it thinks best represents the business, influenced by engagement, recency, and relevance.
Customer photos with lots of views can dominate your listing for months — and that’s often good: they’re social proof and can convert better than polished brand shots. But if an outdated or unflattering image is stuck as your cover photo, act: set a proper cover photo in your dashboard, keep uploading fresh owner photos (recency matters), and ask customers to upload good photos with their reviews. Over time, your newer, better-categorized photos win the top spots.
If no photos are showing at all — not even old ones — the problem isn’t the photos. Check the profile itself:
Fix the profile problem first; photo uploads made while the profile is unhealthy often get stuck in limbo.
Work through this in order:
Once the immediate problem is fixed, build a photo routine: upload real photos of your storefront, interior, team at work, and products or completed jobs — the images that convert local searchers and that a solid local SEO strategy prioritizes for map-pack visibility. Add photos monthly rather than in one batch; steady additions look natural to the review system. In competitive Pakistani markets — clinics, restaurants, real estate, salons — photo quality is a genuine ranking and conversion edge, and one of the cheapest SEO wins you can get.
Name your files descriptively before upload (“dental-clinic-reception-lahore.jpg” instead of “IMG_4829.jpg”). And engage with customer-uploaded photos the way you engage with reviews — it signals an active, trustworthy business.
Photos are often the first thing a customer sees on your listing — before reviews, before the description. Missing or unflattering photos quietly lose customers to competitors daily.
